Marathon Monday + my favorite earrings of the season

Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

You're gonna hate me, but it's actually a state holiday today in Massachusetts. It is Patriot's Day, where we remember the start of the American Revolution, complete with reenactments of the battle at Lexington and Concord. The day is also known by locals as Marathon Monday because the Boston Marathon is run. It's seriously one of the best times to be in the city (if you can handle crowds).

Since not everyone can have a holiday today, I wanted to introduce you to my favorite earrings of late.

Have you ever gotten a new accessory that seems to go with more of what you already own than expected? I don't know if it's an awareness of what I'm lacking or what, but I seem to find earrings and bracelets that end up complimenting way more than I expected.

My Acute Designs Large Round Angled Jade Color Dipped earrings are no different. I have worn them with a black dress, navy blue top, t-shirt and jeans, and the list goes on! I get a compliment on them every.single.time.

Gina is the talented designer behind Acute Designs. I asked her a few questions about her handmade business.

How did you get your start designing jewelry?
I spent eight years in cubicle jobs, babysitting, etc trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. For two years I worked in a government job for the military and was literally bored into action. I started my business while at my day job and was constantly scheming and dreaming while I was supposed to be working.

My business and blog started slow and I grew them as much as I could in a year and then quit my day job. I quit a week before my 30th birthday because I knew I could not be 30 years old and in a soul sucking job without having a mental breakdown. That was two and a half years ago and it has been a crazy and rewarding ride.

Where do you draw your design inspiration from?
Everything! I am mostly attracted to vintage design. I love browsing antique markets and period dramas are my favorite type of tv show/movie. For as long as I can remember, I have been mesmerized by anything "old-fashioned" and I tend to draw so much inspiration from things that are a little bit older.

What's your favorite thing about the Spring 2013 line?
I love the larger styles of the color dipped brass pieces! Also, I am releasing a 2013 bridal line that I am so excited about. It will be available in May.
