I love coffee {recipe}

I originally shared this at From the Guest Room a few weeks ago.

It's favorite family recipe that originated with my great grandma, who was actually born on the 4th of July in the late 19th century. Her middle name was Independence :) This coffee gelatin is a perfectly refreshing dessert for summer!
You'll need the following ingredients:
1 cup strong coffee
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 envelope gelatin
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs, separated
dash of salt
Directions:
Soften gelatin in half of milk in pan.
Add coffee, rest of milk, sugar and salt to double boiler over heat using (but do not let boil).
Remove from heat once sugar is nearly dissolved.
Divide eggs and add yolks to coffee mixture. Let stand.
Beat egg whites in separate bowl until stiff.
Pour coffee mixture slowly over egg whites while beating. Add vanilla.
Divide among four glass dishes and chill, about two hours until gelled.
I hope you enjoy this recipe and it becomes a family/summer favorite for you too.
