stylin' the homefront {kitchen + living}

I love my house, I really do. And I know we're extremely blessed to own a house.  Next week, we will celebrate one year of living in it and making the house into a home. Earlier this week, a friend asked me to define my decorating style. Without thinking I said "not matching..." and then tried to explain myself. I used words like eclectic and vintage. I also kind of apologized, telling her I didn't think there was anything wrong with matching, it just wasn't my taste. I like things to look pulled together, but I would never go to a home store and buy a room set. Thankfully, understood ((or at least said she did)) and it didn't seem like I offended her. Below are some inspiring photos of home ideas I've bookmarked or pinned in the past few months.

I love color and mixing textures. The tray on the table with multiple sets of salt and pepper shakers is perfect. I also love the colorful chairs. One the sideboard, I love the vintage Coca-cola tray and globe.

I also love the kitchen table upcycled here. They simply made a new table top and I've been scanning Craigslist for a free kitchen table set so we can do this one. The wall decor behind the table is also lovely with the bunting, artwork and shelves.

We've chosen to go with white cupboards from Ikea. I love a shiplap ceiling with lots of white & gray for other colors to stand out against. Note there are more globes displayed!

For the entryway and stairwell, I've been considering ideas for a collage of artwork, photos and more. There are so many ideas I've found.

For the living room, I am especially excited since we just picked out the paint color last week. We are still installing the ceiling so it will be a few weeks before the room is painted. But these living rooms are just lovely.

I can't put my finger on what exactly captures my attention here. It may be the windows and red chairs in the background. But this looks so inviting and comfortable.

I don't consider myself a white coach kind of person, but this sectional seems perfect and thanks to Hayley ((see link below)), I'm convinced we could do it. I also love the painted brick fireplace!

Next week, I'll share some images for bedrooms and bathrooms.
How would you describe your home decor style?

  2. I'm not a matchy person either and I have a hard time explaining to people what my home decor style is. It's bits and pieces of everything I love, but it all ties in together and works! I have antiques, shabby chich, retro and lots of original native american artwork. Which none of it sounds like it would go together, but somehow it just all does!

    1. Thanks, Amy! It can be overwhelming to make some decisions :) I feel like paint is a total commitment, but it's really not.

  8. Amazing inspiration! My problem is that I know what I like when I see it, but I don't seem to know how to recreate it in my own home ;)
