what i love {picking apples + eating ice cream}

One of my favorite things about living in New England, is going apple picking in the fall.  Last weekend, we got to do so at Smolak Farms with some friends.  It was unseasonably warm ((in the 80s and very sunny)).  We decided on a half bushel to share between the other couple and us.
We picked a variety of apples including Cortland, MacIntosh, Mac Spur, Mutsu, Macoun and Granny Smith.  I'm planning to make apple sauce for the first time this week with some the apples we brought home.  A friend recommended this recipe.
Smolak Farms has a lot of offerings with a store that sells cider donuts and more and a farm stand that sells other seasonal fruits and veggies.  It was a great place to people watch.  They even have a tractor that will take you out to pick the apples.
With the warm temps, I wasn't in the mood for cider or even a ((sticky)) donut.  But I was excited to visit their ice cream stand.  They had a lot of seasonal flavors, so I chose pumpkin ice cream and it was delicious!
Have you been apple picking or gotten a pumpkin this season?
