date night

I hate to admit it, but my husband and I don't go on dates regularly
and we really don't have an excuse since we don't have children yet.
This summer, we have been trying to make an effort to go out once a week,
in hopes of establishing a mandatory date night each week.

This past weekend, it seemed like actually leaving the house would be our biggest hurdle.
We're in the midst of renovating our home and had started to tear apart the laundry room
and second bathroom...we had literally been tearing down walls all day long.
Here's a glimpse of what I'm talking about...
Nonetheless, we made it out of the house by 8:30pm [I was able to cook a simple meal before we left].
We ventured south to Providence, RI for WaterFire,
the lighting of multiple wood-burning fires in the three rivers of the city.
We had never been before and didn't know exactly what to expect.
The fires were beautiful, while the sounds of the Providence Philharmonic Orchestra
filled the air and people bustled about on the streets.
We had so much fun wandering the hilly streets and people watching.
What did you do over the weekend?
Have you been on a fun date lately?

  1. super impressed at your home renovation! Does your hubby (or you) have previous experience in this? My husband and I bought a house that's sort of a fixer-- but we can only afford to tackle a few things at a time. excited to see what this looks like when you're done!

  2. Renovating is so tiring, isn't it? I'm impressed you got up the energy to leave the house ;). Waterfire sounds like it was fun! My hubby and I (with my sis and bro-in-law) went to NYC yesterday - fun but tiring!!

  3. that's awesome that you're aiming for a date a week! we need to do that, especially come fall when joel's schedule will be crazy busy. we will definitely be going on one at some point this week, especially considering i was gone all weekend & joel is having a buddy stay with us for the long weekend (which equals zero joel time).

thank goodness you took that wallpaper down! i bet that was not a fun job!

  4. I love WaterFire! Glad you were able to get yourself out of the house and on a real date. Can't wait to see how the renovations look after you have walls again :)
