mothers

While driving to work this week, I chatted with my
grandmother & it reminded me of conversations
I used to have with my mom.
She was encouraging, speaking life-giving words to me.
I am so thankful I can still pick up the phone to call
either of my grandmothers, though they live hundreds of miles away.

Even though my mom is no longer with us,
I am reminded of so many things I learned from her:
cooking
memorizing Scripture
housekeeping
writing notes
crafting
giving thoughtful gifts
singing
keeping in touch with friends
baking
Christmas 1980
...and the things I would ask her more about
so I could actually learn them from her:
being a wife
making gravy
gardening
balancing multiple obligations
gift wrapping
being a mother

Happy Mother's Day!

  1. What wonderful memories. It sounds like your mother was amazing. Sorry she's not with you any longer. What a legacy she has left!
& I wanna know how to make a good gravy as well ;-)
