Guatemala City {1}

During our first day in Guatemala City, we hiked an active volcano:
Mt. Pacaya.  It last erupted in May 2010.

Our guide gathered some branches during the early part of the hike.
When we got to one area that had a crevice, he told us there was lava flowing below us.
He demonstrated the heat by placing the branches on top of the crevice;
in less than a minute flames burst out!

[along with one of many mountain dogs that roamed free, on left].

The best way to get down the mountain: slide & leap!
